1. Increasing fish production and achieving self-sufficiency: After 46 years of independence, Bangladesh has been able to achieve self-sufficiency in fish production in 2016-2017. In the past decade, this sector has directly and indirectly created employment opportunities for an additional 6 lakh rural people annually.As a result of the government's implementation of fisheries-friendly programs and provision of demand-oriented and timely technical services at the farmer and entrepreneur level, the fish production in the financial year 2018-2019 has reached 43.84 lakh MT: which is 62.31 percent more than the total production of 2008-09 (27.01 lakh MT).It should be noted (In 1983-84, the total production of fish in the country was 7.54 lakh MT. Therefore, in a span of 36 years, the production of fish has increased almost six times. In the last 12 years, the production growth in the fisheries sector has been 5.01 percent. If this pattern of production continues, it is expected that the country's fishery production target of 45.52 lakh MT will be achieved in the next financial year 2020-21.

2. Expansion and Modernization of Fisheries in Closed Watersheds: Training of farmers, transfer of advanced technology, provision of practical extension services, management of demonstration farms etc. with the aim of imparting modern technology of fish farming through trained and skilled extension workers of the Department of Fisheries.being done  As a result, in addition to the increase in the production of native fish in different regions of the country, the production of Pangas, Koi, Shi, Magur and Tilapia fish has already increased.A silent revolution has been achieved in the field.  In 2018-2019, the country's 3.98 lakh hectares of ponds and lakes produced an annual average fish production of 4.964 MT per hectare.  If this pattern of production continues, production is expected to exceed 5.00 mt per hectare by 2020-2021.

3. Expansion of eco-friendly shrimp farming: Shrimp is one of the main export products of Bangladesh. In the international market Along with the increase in demand for shrimp, the shrimp farming area is expanding in the coastal areas of this country. As a result, few The area of shrimp farms has increased to 258 thousand hectares during the year.

4. Conservation of Jatka and Development of Hilsa Resources:  Hilsa is our national fish and renewable natural resource.Bangladesh is a role model in the world in hilsa production. Bangladesh is at the top among 11 hilsa producing countries in the world.12.15 percent of the total fish production of Bangladesh comes from hilsa alone, the contribution of hilsa to the country's GDP is more than one percent.  The contribution of hilsa as a single species is the highest.  Hilsa of Bangladesh is recognized in the world market with its own identity in obtaining the Geographical Registration Certificate (GI Certificate) of Hilsa in Bangladesh.Bangladesh, which produces more than two-thirds of the world's hilsa, will now be presented to the world as a country of hilsa.The contribution of hilsa as a single species is the highest.  Hilsa of Bangladesh is recognized in the world market with its own identity in obtaining the Geographical Registration Certificate (GI Certificate) of Hilsa in Bangladesh.Bangladesh, which produces more than two-thirds of the world's hilsa, will now be presented to the world as a country of hilsa.

5. Establishment of bill nurseries and juvenile fish release program: Bill nurseries are being established in selected water bodies to increase the production of harvestable fish in open water bodies and to improve the socio-economic status of the poor communities, fish farmers and fishermen in the vicinity of the water bodies.In continuation of this, 388 Bill Nasaris have been set up in 344 upazilas at a cost of Tk 120.00 lakh under the revenue sector and a total of 270 in open water bodies. 82 million tons (Revenue: 218.68 million tons and Project: 52.14 million tons) of fish have been released.

6. Establishment of fish sanctuaries and conservation of aquatic biodiversity: Sanctuaries have already been recognized by the beneficiaries as one of the technical strategies for the conservation, breeding and propagation of endangered fish species.At present, 432 sanctuaries are established in various rivers and inland open water bodies of the country
Managed by the beneficiaries.

7.  Development of fish habitat: natural and man-made ponds, ponds, canals, boreholes, hoards and Rivers and canals have been filled with silt and have become unsuitable for natural reproduction and free movement of fish.The government is carrying out extensive activities to restore the native fish habitat through renovating and re-excavating these water bodies and improving the environment and surroundings of the water bodies.About 3,904 hectares of degraded water bodies have been rehabilitated and developed through various development projects under the Department of Fisheries during the last ten years.
